For years our members have complained that Google allows click farms and competitors to exhaust their PPC bids for the day. When customers complained of fraud, Google would not honor the reports detailing the false clicks. Worse, Google makes it hard to track click fraud. So users must pay for special tools to detect it.
Preparing a fraud report takes a lot of time and resources. This is in addition to the actual management of the Google Adwords account. Third party Adwords management services often charge as much as 20% of your total budget. Personal injury lawyers often pay as much as $300.00 for a click to a highly searched term like “Personal Injury Attorney.” That’s crazy when most of the calls they report receiving are for things like someone tripping on their shoelace and wanting to sue someone, anyone.
Worse, Google continues to push organic results further and further down the page. What was once result 3 or 4 is now number 15. Law firms are dissolving and people are being put out of work. Big firms like Jacoby and Meyers have huge spends and can absorb the fraud better than smaller firms and solos. So basically, there is slowly becoming a monopoly of big business getting all the cases.
If you have a website or a cause, you likely see that your online ads don’t go as far as they used to. Often, you may see that paid online advertising is like throwing money down a well. It hasn’t always been like that. In fact, one of the most popular platforms, Google Adwords, fell rapidly over the last several years.
There are several lawsuits alleging fraud against the web giant.
Google’s been doing its best to downplay the serious allegations. The company offered a variety of free and reduced price coupons for potential customers.
Silicon Beat reported that the tech giant paid out almost $23 million in one settlement alone. In this case at the US District Court of the Northern District of California, affected users faced a chance to get involved. Furthermore, there is another chance to get aboard, if not all of the money is expended.
The Mercury News also reported on Google allegedly raking in billions by not cracking down on click fraud. As ad revenue plummets for the average website, Google’s actions put even more pressure on each site’s owners.
How Do I Submit a Claim?
One of the major class action lawsuits stopped accepting new clients earlier in June. However, there are still ways to get involved. With potential lawsuits still upcoming, the right attorney is key. Google and its parent Alphabet are still on the hook for potential fraud, and consumers deserve their fair shake.
